Lot 1322 PUERTO RICO, Bayamón(?), aluminum ½ real token, no date (late 1800s / early 1900s?), La Colonia Espa
PUERTO RICO, Bayamón(?), aluminum ½ real token, no date (late 1800s / early 1900s?), La Colonia Española, rare, ex-Roehrs. Archilla-Diez-628; Fumero-506. 1.6 grams. 25 mm. Bold UNC with bright, lustrous aluminum surfaces, sharp dentiled rims, strong details, and a few areas of light toning. One side bears an artistic LA COLONIA brand device, while the other displays 1/2 CAJA. An unusually choice example of this seldom encountered denomination, with excellent eye appeal and definition. Reportedly a canteen token for a Bayamón social club known as La Colonia Española (some references attribute to Guatemala instead). Pedigreed to the Edward Roehrs Collection with his tag 419.
